Re: new light gun,,,the fang

Hi Dave, The gun of mine you showed was a sleeved Rem 700, started life as an SPS 270 Win, still have the 1.25 barrel, 4000 rounds and it still shoots 8" at 1000yd. In the form in the pic, we had it opened out to 300win Mag bolt face, set up to bottom eject. The barrel was a Hart double Kryo, I...

Re: new light gun,,,the fang

Dave, Think that stock might be over engineered a bit? I know the LG stock I am working on at the moment will not take that sort of punishment. We've had just over 5 inches in 3 days, just need another 15 or 20 and we will be right. How many barrels do you think Jacko will be bringing to Narromine t...

Re: new light gun,,,the fang

Maybe I should get DG to work on that Jacko, we got 85mm last night/yesterday, so that helps, but it only put the dam up one percent, so plenty to go. Since it's too wet to do anything outside, back to work on the new stocks.

Re: new light gun,,,the fang

DG,

Think you have spotted him, photo bombed by Jacko again. Good news is it's pelting down rain up here. If it keeps up like this for a week or so, we might be out of our water issues in Townsville, we only have another metre to go to get to a normal wet.

Re: new light gun,,,the fang

Half your luck Jacko, never caught a Salmon of that type, only see them in cans up here. Caught a few King Salmon, and Blues, but totally different fish. Looks like you will be fully prepared for Narromine as usual then? Got the barrel block finished yesterday, so TZ can bore it when he gets b...

Re: new light gun,,,the fang

Camel, He learnt to do it from JR. He used to go through whole slings of alloy tube looking for the most concentric with the most uniform wall thickness to make stretcher tubes from. Used to drive the guys at Capral absolutely bonkers. WHS wouldn't allow it these days. So is this the WSM 300 Jacko? ...

Re: new light gun,,,the fang

Hi Jacko, Only a little bit of work left to do? I know the feeling, somehow I have found myself building 3 new stocks at the moment. The HG barrel block stock, just about got the barrel block to the point where TZ can bore it for me, a new LG stock, although things slowed a bit there when the new 9 ...

Re: borescope ??

Got a Hawkeye, works great. Tells me when I haven't done the cleaning job right, and when the 75gr of powder has eaten the throat.

Townsville LR Results 5/11/16

Guys,

Results are posted, it was a very hot day with strong winds. A few drops of rain also added to the mirage and haze, just to add to the degree of difficulty. Good to see a new shooter as well.

Re: Reloading consumables etc..

Guys, I am spoilt for choice, I have about 9 LGS in my territory. I mainly buy out of the Mareeba shop, even though I live 400k away, I go past it every two or three weeks. I will buy gear for Jacko Bending and Sir Saligari, and take it to Narromine, or get John Maquire to drop it to them, We have p...

Re: 1000yd br /500m fly start up advice

As someone who regularly accelerated a 107 to 3300 plus, in an 8 twist, all I can say is forget the Berger/ Litz BS on twist rates and accept that with a velocity over about 3100, you need to think about a 9 twist. Used the 8 twist, and watched SMKs blow up at 306000 rpm. Just my real world experien...

Re: 1000yd br /500m fly start up advice

Or you could go back to the HG idea, 210 SMK at 3100, for wind drift at 5.8 mph, 3 oclock, of a whole 30.24 inches, with a scope/mount setup that can handle 21.8 MOA. You will only burn 76gr 2217 at a time, so nice and cheap to run.
