Jeff.... very good points, seeing holes is always an advantage.

How many times at Fly shoots can you not see the 30cal holes?

My other question for you, for a lightgun, what caliber? The 30's are getting a little too big for the 17lb class recoil wise!! even the 7mm are getting heavy on the recoil side! Maybe a straight 284W might be the go at the upper limit?

Maybe your saying ditch the lightgun class and shoot the heavy to be competitive.

Would all the light guns have the same disadvantage at 500m? Although there is a greater chance of seeing a 6.5 hole!

With the two classes, the light guns will have the same disadvantage?

Cheers

I have thought of using the machine gun technique with my 17lb dasher!!

The recoil is so light, its simple to get back on target very very quickly. I'm not sure if it even recoils a inch back!!

I have ordered a coaxial rest, that should make going from the sighter plate to the record target a lot quicker also.

Maybe this is the key for the smaller holes when the mirage is running hot!! Pump them out fast!!!!!

My other lightgun is a 6.5-284, maybe after the barrel is buggered, I'll go to a 284W shooting something like the 168 bergers?? How would a 30-284 go with the flat base projectiles? Could be alright! Should put the 175MK's over 3000fps I'd think!

Both stocks are ST1000's, but not thumbhole!

All I can hope for is that everyone else is in the same boat as me in the lightgun class!!

In the future I'll have a dedicated HG build, most likely off the 8X68RWS brass!

Just wondering how would a 338-8x68RWS compare to a 338 LapuaM???

AJR you mentioned small holes being hard to see- logical.

Is there a light recoiling 338 cartridge that could be used for 500 FLY.
Something less than a 338 WinM but will still push the high BC match 338's to useful velocity??

Something on a WSSM case perhaps??????

Is there another match calibre abouve 338??? but smaller than 50 cal??

How is the FLY actually scored?? Is it "on the line your in or out" for scoring rings and do you get any bonus/extra points for getting a fly (as well as the patch)?

thanks

Mate

The 338LM will eat a 338 based off a 8X68 case.

I dont really think there is a 338 caliber that you'd shoot in the light gun class. You need a fairly big case to get the heavier projectiles moving... which equals recoil.

In a heavygun, a 338LM improved would be the ticket, but I still think for a comp. benchgun, a 30cal. is the way to go. The amount of projectiles for the 30's is excellent! The good old 300WM is proven, but something based off the 300weatherby case would be the ticket also.

338 is limited to really 4 projectiles. The Sierra 250&300MK, the Lapua 250 scenars, and soon to be the 275 berger.

Fly is scored for group and points. The size of your group dictates the amount of group points you get. ie. 1" group gets you a extra 10 points.

The points score is by which ring you hit.

These are added together for the final score on the target.

On the line is in.

A fly is worth a .1 to your score.

I think I made that hard to understand...hhmmm..

AI,

Look :o :o :o it appears that I am not the only person who thinks that the 300 win mag you are selling is really something you should modify and then shoot at 500 and 1000.

cheers
