Re: CZ 527 20VT on a budget
The CZ stock was along traditional Euro lines which I like the look of but not to use. Since this will mainly get used off some sort of rest be it bags on the bench, bipod or the nearest rock or log I wanted a wider forend with a gentle bottom curve and a bit higher comb at the rear.
So I found some old kitchen cupboard doors I made 30 odd years ago out of Rosewood, they should be aged enough . the kitchen was removed a few years ago and I had them put away just in case I needed them one day. Then went to work making small pieces into a big enough piece to carve a stock out of. It may have a few old screw holes in the finished product but there is a story behind the wood so it is character not a defect.
Photos will show the progress.
I have tested this epoxy on other jobs and the wood will break before the glue joint. This is the colour freshly planed, it will go darker as it ages.
More to follow

Re: CZ 527 20VT on a budget
I true up the top and use it for the initial setout and allows me to use the router to take some of the bulk out in the barrel and action inletting.
I have looked at it for the last week and bit the bullet and started shaping. Used the router, electric and hand planes and belt sander to get the easy parts done. I drilled the action screws and use them for reference points for measuring from the old stock for the inletting. When using the router or other power tools I leave about 1+ mm for final fitting.

A couple more of todays work.
Bruce
Still a long way to go. I really need the action to do some accurate fitting and get the feel of how it handles and check the comb height. I may pull my 223 action out and use it until the VT gets back. Plenty more sawdust to make, at least this stock smells nice.Bruce

Inspiring work Bruce. I have toyed with the idea of shaping up a stock but the idea of I letting has meant I have always shied away from it. My BIL has some nice slabs of Blackwood that I reckon would look good cradling a blued barrelled action. I particularly like the height of the comb.

Bloody good show Ruce, you have done an amazing job so far, will like to see the finished job. Got a solid piece of rosewood from my old man, 24 inches long, four inches wide and around 10 inches deep, been thinking of making a stock from it myself, but haven't been game to start on it yet. Maybe one of these days.

Spent a couple of days shaping and fitting. Lots of sawdust and planer shavings. must have trial fitted the action a hundred times, left a bit of space for epoxy bedding later .
Still deciding on the shape of forend tip profile and a bit of cleaning up around cheek piece shape. Then lots of sanding. Wiped down with water and how it will look when finished. The colour makes it worth the effort. Bruce

A few update pics.
Sanded and sanded and sanded and finally ready for some coats of fine buffing oil. Started scratching the wood and ended up with one panel nearly complete. A bit of skip line checkering for a challenge. Needs a bit of cleaning up. Bruce

Top effort on the checkering. I like the transition of the laminate colours in the pistol grip.
