McMillan A 5

cos it takes so long for parts to get here my mind has time to wander. Went for a Geoff Slee thumbhole for my 204 as couldnt see a synthetic thumbhole I liked. The MCMilan A 5 has that deep cleft in the stock so your thumb goes round the pistol grip as it would in a thumbhole.
Anyone used this stock or know someone who has. Opinions welcome.
Of course if I do go this way there will be an xx grade walnut stock for sale!

I've wanted an A5 for ages, but am too impatient to suffer the waiting times...and it's not just us: Was quoted 3-4 months (Which people in the know reckoned I should double!!) when back in the UK!
If I had more sense (Or could decide on a rifle!) I'd just order one months ahead of time so when I'd finally got the rest of the rifle ordered, the stock would be here too! Not that organised though...

McMillan A5.. fantastic stock.. I too looked at this stock but the delivery time turns me away.. as well as the cost by time you fit it out with adjustable cheek piece and adjustable LOP.
That is why I went a AICS.. and its fit me well. Having trouble trying to get another at moment... but looks like I have found one.
Manners is also another stock maker you should look at. The only reason I went for a AICS over the Manners is that I wanted a dettachable magazine.. and then I would have had to buy Badger bottom metel which is another $500 on top of the stock! Still great stocks.
Shane should not be to far away with the AICS rifle... and hopefully I have another AICS on the way soon from the US.

Trevort,
I have used a rifle stocked with a McMillan A5 and it was sweet. Love at first shot. It was just handed to me on a hunt so it was used with no initial familiarisation. 1st shot was taken standing and it recoiled straight back, very comfortable to hold. 2nd shot was kneeling, again very comfortable, many hours and shots later it had to be prised out of my hands. Very comfortable in all positions. I want one !!!
I have used an ACIS and while also very nice to shoot not as good as the A5. On the ACIS I found the moulded trigger guard rubbed annoying on my 2nd finger, it has a hole in it for adjusting triggers. The guard could be filed down to make it more comfortable though.
ACIS have the best magazine system.
I have brought in 3 McMillan stocks direct from McMillan and have had them in my hands in 3 1/2 weeks.
I set my alarm clock for 3am, ring Kelly at McMillan ( she handels o.s. orders ), pay by credit card. About 3 weeks later Customs might ring you, get them to fax reguired forms to you, work out duty, pay by credit card, and in a couple of days Aust post delievers to your door. I had one stock that arrived without ony Customs intervention.
I used a McMillan "Dunlap" on a Rem 700 target rifle that was so comfortable to use in all positions that when I sold the rifle I traded the stock back, its that good.
cheers jt.

A5 ordered
Hi wall the stock is one of his roo shooter specials but I had him slim the forend and inlet for a sporter barrel (I have a no 5 Lilja and it was to be a light varmint) Rem short action BDL.
I used the 204 mainly spotlighting or prone. If I do up this fancy stock I wont want to lie down and scratch it.
I paid $300 and want back what i paid. Its nicely figured. Sorry, its at Shanes so no photo. If I hadnt changed my mind and ordered a stiller predator it would be on a rifle now.

Was that US$, C$ or AU$?
I got the same quote, and will ring him tonight to confirm my order too.
Now all I need is an action to put in it, but I think that's sorted as well.
