Nah mate, I wouldn't waste my time trying to get the big unit to go over to a 20/222, he just hasn't got the class to handle it.

I had 5 loaded rounds left and figured I may as well shoot a group at 100 while I was mucking around with the 17 rem.
I fired these one after another with no break in between. Load shoot, load shoot and so on.
I was astonished at the group when I walked over to the target. It was shot using torch light with a 4-12x40 Leopold.

I was playing around in the shed today forming down some old 222 cases to the vartarg and after running through the fireball forming die, had admire the little 221 case.
Very efficient case.

At the risk of upsetting some, you could buy an off the shelf calibre and save yourself all that effort . Probably shoot about the same

Interesting Lawsie the 221 fireball is a case that has always piqued my interest.Like Tepee I like the look of the case when forming the 222 down to 20 Vartarg or 17 Mach 1V

But I have read somewhere when it was used in short range benchrest it could not quite reach the accuracy potential of the 222Rem or 222Rem mag.

Maybe they used Camels Tad measureing device.


Raven stop making sense but yuo don`t do it for any practical reason but more for the fact you can

Not to hijack the thread, but I do it because -
1- it's my hobby/pass time
2- I enjoy the challenge of "rolling my own"
3- as seddo pointed out, can reload to suit the rifles characteristics.
4- get something a bit different to the normal.
And just because I can.
Learning different things is all part of the journey.

The main thing is to have fun, whatever it is you do.

I enjoy the idea that I can have a parent case like 222 or 223, and manufacture my own brass for the 221 or 17 fireball, at a fraction of the cost of store bought brass. I tend to cry when I loose a Rem 17FB case in the long grass, at $1.30 or so a case it starts to get expensive. I just purchased about 800 once fired 222 rem for just such a purpose. Lifetime supply.

Also, I can control the neck tolerances better when rolling my own, and factory stuff tends to be quite thin in the neck.
