Trigger options for an Omark Sportco 308

Post by bobnob »

Hello Folks,

Long time lurker - first post here.

I have a Sportco 44 that's set up with a 20 moa rail and a BDC scope. It groups fantastically and rings steel very well to 750y which is as far as I've gone with it.

But the trigger is not great. I've adjusted it as much as I can, but there's still a little creep and the pull is a little inconsistent.

Any tips for tidying these up? What are my aftermarket options?

I see there's a Davies trigger for Omark - will this drop right in? How do they go?

I have a 2 stage Davies trigger on my Omark. It is fantastic. I originally wanted a single stage Davies trigger with the curved trigger but the straight trigger piece is fine. I really like the two stage pull, to the point that if I built up a dedicated long range fox rifle on a Rem or Omark action (same trigger fits both) then a Davies 2 stage would probably be my choice.

It is a drop in fit from memory. I had to send the trigger back to Adam Davies to get a replacement sear made that held the cocking piece back a bit further as with the standard Davies trigger I had misfires. Adam replaced the sear for fee which I reckon is good service.

G'Day Bob,
search for Davies Triggers in Castlemaine Vic as they make triggers for Omarks. Not sure if they are a Remington pattern.
also look on OzFclass forum as someone might have one laying around that they don't use anymore.
You could also have a wanted in Used Guns online market too.

Thanks fellows. Sounds like its the Davies then. Very good to know these are being made right here as well.

G'Day All,
you might also consider the Rifle Basix triggers too.
I helped a mate fit up two into a pair of Stolle Panda's and I was very happy (as he is too) with the consistency of pull weight. You would have to check the price as the Aus$ is not as good as it was. Nioa was the wholesaler from memory, maybe Herrons.

Geoff do Basix make an Omark-specific trigger or will another version fit the Omark-Sportco?

G'Day Bob,
I doubt Basix do an Omark trigger but they have numerous triggers for Rem700.
Timney might do an Omark but if the Omark trigger is based upon the Remington it is highly unlikely.

I'm slow but I think the penny has dropped... any Rem 700 trigger will fit an Omark 44?

I think the Davies website says that the trigger model to suit an Omark also suits a Rem.

I have also read somewhere that in the early days some people ran slightly modified Rem factory triggers on their Omarks.

If you grind the cocking sear to match that of a Rem 700 sear any Rem 700 trigger or clone will work. This is a fairly straight forward and simple modification yet few ever do it. The two sears are virtually interchangeable barring their contact angle. Failing that the materials used in an Omark trigger lend themselves to a three lever conversion. The quality of materials used in Omark triggers is very good and equal to Rem 700 triggers of the same era.

A Davies trigger will work, as a straight drop-in, the sear engagement is possibly different depending on the bolt. The Omark bolt that I have had to be ground so that the bottom was square and flat as compared to the angled sear. Works fine, firstly as a target rifle, then as an F-Class rifle, and now back to being a target rifle.
