Have a look at the ruger VT, my son has one in .204, using 39 gn SBK's, 2206H and rem 71/2 primers shoots 5 shot groups that you can cover with a 5 cent piece at 100 metres straight out of the box

yes, i had one of those too and it did exactly what yours is doing with 27.9 of 2206h and the rest of the ingredients you mention

i'm not rem fan. i recommeded one because if you hang around long enough we'll convince you that you have to go semi custom. most go fast bits and gunsmith tooling is set up around remingtons

Rem sps etc are light but when you add in the H&S stock and the custom barrel you will have a nice solid rifle for spotlight and varminting work.

I love mine, Stiller Predator action, Lilja Barrel, Rifle Basix trigger and H&S thumbhole stock

I can only talk to the limited selection of No.1 rifles I own or have tuned.

With the right load, my 300H&H will put three shots into less than a 3/4in @ 100m for the first three shots.
My 338Win Mag will cloverleaf three shots.
My 375H&H will put 3 into just over an inch (and that is a trial off the bench).
My 223 used to be a consistent 1in performer with 5 shots
My 6.5x47Lap is still working up loads, but it currently puts 5 into 1.25in. I can shrink that to under an inch I think.

I worked on a 223 Varmiter last year that now puts 5 into less than 3/4in any time the owner wants it to.

Anything you read about No.1 rifles being inaccurate is written by someone who is a closet benchrest wanker. Ruger No.1 rifles are hunting rifles, not target guns. For any rifle to perform at it's best you need to do some bedding work to improve on the factory solution (unless you spend $2k+ on the rifle alone).

Almost any modern bolt rifle can be more accurate, but the accuracy required in the field is not in the 1/2in range. Hell a rabbit at 300m is still a 2MOA target!

I would be confident that the 204 No.1B in that advert would be able to consistently put 5 shots into less than 1in @ 100yd (1MOA) with a little load tuning. A touch of bedding work will improve that further.

I agree the Ruger No 1 does have class and I want one.

But, for me (and I stress the for me part) when I get one it will be in something in 6mm or bigger as it would be for a hunting rifle not for varminting. My preference for a varminting rifle is a solid, heavy bolt action which will get 0.5 MOA at 100-200m.

Ruger No 1 for hunting, Purpose built bolt action (single shot or mag feed it dosent matter) for varminting/spotlighting.
