204 groups at 300yds.

Post by louie the fly »

Hey Lads,

After some good results on my steel target at 300yds, I thought I would see how my two main loads performed on paper.
I'm really happy with the results.

The first and third groups were shot with 45gr SP and measured approx. 1'' and 1.75" respectfully (still need to take off the 0.204), and the 2nd group was shot with 39SBK and measured just under 1.80". The wind was a bit gusty and i reckon if the conditions were a bit calmer I could get the groups a touch smaller.

Rifle used was Tikka T3 with Leupold VX3 6.5-20x50 scope
Loads used were:

45gr SP -- 25.5gr 2206H -- remmy cases -- federal match primers
39gr SBK -- 28.5gr 2206H -- remmy cases -- federal match primers

cheers.

HUNTERDELUX,
yeh mate its the super varmint model.

To be honest I tried the 40gr Vmax's once and they shot like shit, so I just settled on the 39SBK and the 45SP.
Do you run 40's Missed?

cheers

Louie I run V-max`s in my 222 , 22-250 and 20PPC I found they need to be seated kissing the lands or slightly jammed.

Very good shooting mate! Gotta love it when they shoot hey. I haven't tried the Howa out at 300m yet but at 200 it is very good with some 5 shots going .6, .9 and a 4 shot going .5 (rushed the last one because the cease fire was sounded). Bloody hard getting em to shoot that well hey, maybe me I think but she's great when it all comes together.

great shooting mate enjoy the Tikka!

thanks for the comment bigfella,

Yeh mate, I reckon if your rifle can shoot under an inch @200yds its is a better indication of accuracy than shooting at 100yds. Howa's are a nice bit of kit. I was doing a bit searching on the net and came across a few nice mods for the howa 1500. Mostly pretty sweet 8) detachable mag and bottom metal mods.

Get out to the range and shoot some 300yds groups and post em up....love seeing other accurate rifles! :auto:

happy shooting

Yeh mate I reckon thats the next challenge to see how I shoot at 300yds! I find it's really hard to be consistant when it comes to getting smalll groups at 200 all the time, I get some that are around the .5-.6 then I start to open up for some reason, whether it be me or the rifle heating up or barrels getting dirty or something else I don't know but @ 100 it is spot on - last weekend I shot 6 groups 5 shot groups and every group fitted inside a 5c piece bar one shot which just landed outside the main group, and that was after shooting the few groups @ 200 so I assume its me thats the problem re groups @ 200, I did notice some heat haze/mirage etc when shooting the 200yds so maybe that had something to do with it, not to mention the flags were moving fairly well out at the 200 but no real wind at all at the benches (wind puffs every now and then and thats it)

I guess thats the challenge of shooting groups at long ranges hey!
