Restocked the 223

Got rid of the tupperware stock and took to a second hand laminate f class stock with the grinder. First off had to turn a RH thumbhole into an ambidextrous thumbhole. Then took a heap of material off the fore end and guts of it. Had it inletted so the magazine fitted. The existing tikka bedding and lug was fine so it stayed. It is slightly crooked but it’s good enough for me. Just got to hit it with the sandpaper and it’s going to get 2k clear coated.

Hopefully give it a run at 600m tomorrow and do a ladder test with 80gr sierras. JBM tells me my load with 55gr sierras should just make it that far before going subsonic too.

Nice rig mate.

I’m now working out what to finish it with. 2k clear is easy these days, I have a proper respirator and you can get cans of 2k clear from most auto paint retailers. But part of me still wants to go oil based, just a shame most seem to yellow the colour a bit.

go with oil finish! it's easy to touch up if needed, I just go and buy linseed oil with added drying agents, it's dam near purrrrfect

I would be all over it if I wasn’t worried about the colour yellowing.

There is a way That will neither yellow or react with the glue in the laminate

I have done a couple and it is a lot easier than you think

Nice rig Lee can you start another thread with all the build details please
