woob,
Well said .. as usual to the point and accurate
And yes if we, and I mean all the disciplines could put aside the petty squabbles and actually learn to live in peace and accept each other right to an opinion .. then and only then will we becaome a formidable force which must be listened to. The NRA in the states is an amazingly effective lobby group simply because the control a large block of votes.
Why cant we learn from our past mistakes ...
cheers

Well gentleman, i have to disagree. When we are all in the same boat, it may be advantageous to the majority to cast off the unnecessary or morale destroying influence. There is no room in 1K for anyone to just come along and disrupt a discipline just because they wish to change things to suit their thought process. We have seen what happened to BR50 and the Fly in NSW for a period of time when a person or group left the accepted rules and went their own way because they felt it was a change for the better. BR50 is long gone and luckily for us the Fly did not take too much of a hit and recovered to where it is now. The NRAA have had the foresight to adopt the IBS rules into their SSRs and i am grateful for it, but to introduce a marked system with little or no warning to those that had happily shot IK for 4 years to a given set of rules has been disruptive and polarised the three ranges concerned. The NRAA has asked for another view of rules proposed and i am glad that some have taken the time and effort to respond. It has been made very clear to me that the NRAA are inclined to run with what is seen as an international discipline and if that line is adhered to, i would think that the marked system will be relegated to a "club" option and not a national directive.
There already exists a shoot at 1000 yards whereby you can shoot for score and have 12 sighters and one record shot on a similar sized target to that used in 1K. It's called "FClass".
Can anyone show me with "scientific proof" that 1K has benefited from this change? It has certainly not shown up after three full years of matches and many are seriously thinking of reverting back to the blind system because there have been no inroads made into the scores or groups shot by the original method. Some have recently looked at the marked results and compared them to their blind results from previous years and come to the crossroads. And then there are some that know no different to the marked style so they have only the national results to go by.
It real does come down to what you wish to get out of the sport. You can chase the six match aggs and get serious about the sport. Or you can use it to test your knowledge of wind and rifle for something like match rifle or FClass, but don't try to change the rules to suit your needs, as like you would to us if we did to you, tell you to fuck off and disrupt someone else.
And lastly to Mr Fraser. Unlike on your own forum, this one cannot be sanitised by you as you are not its moderator. So if you wish to put a needle in here and there because you dislike myself or others and hold BR in such disdain, then feel free to do so. Just remember that the replies we give will not be subjected to your judgement as to what is or is not suitable for viewing by other shooters. If you can't see that our only motive is to offer help to you and others, then we can say no more. You will be welcome to shoot IK at any range at any time as would anyone else. But before you talk the talk, walk the walk and shoot both styles and then some of us may take more notice of your comments.

You're implying something that is not true.
I DO NOT DISLIKE BENCHREST
However, I like F-Class better, and that is why I shoot F-Class and run a F-Class website. Long range BR is very similar to F-Class, and I owe a huge amount to BR for its advances in rifle accuracy technology, so why would I dislike it????
Your confusion has possibly come about because I have consistently said that benches and heavy guns and shooting for groups and personal windflags etc. should not be part of F-Class. And I still say that. I hope you have also noticed that I have consistently said that the spotted method of shooting is not good for BR. Let the two sports retain their own unique character.
So I hope that sets the record straight. In the interests of peace on this forum, and more importantly, relations between our two sports, I'll make an exit from this thread. If you have the best interests of shooting at heart, then you'll walk away too.

After having a couple of conversations over the last two days with different people, it would appear that the rules proposal for 1K, both spotted and blind, looks like a 99.99% certainty that it will be adopted at the NRAA board meeting on 4/12/07. The three clubs in question have agreed to the draft, so therefore since there has been no objection from either club, it will pass through. Our club in Townsville held a meeting and showed no objection to the two styles working in together, even though no member said they would shoot or trial the marked method. The option has and always will remain for any shooter to test either. I would imagine that in the early part of 2008, the SSRs will include the IBS, and FClass option.
I would like to ask all those that are to travel to our range in mid July 2008 to pre nominate as soon as possible by informing either myself or JR. Reason being so we can plan prize monies etc and trophies well in advance for both catagories. The Iron Man trophy will still be offered to any 1K method of entry.
