Valuable lesson learnt.!!

Post by native hunter »

G"day All
We had the first day of our two day shoot today and to say I choked is an understatement,As you can see from the 2nd set of targets I neglected to put a shot on a target costing me ten points.!!
As it was I was struggling.
It was switchy wind gusting up to 18klmh, some managed it well but I was not one of them,It seems I have had a bit of a slump the past two weeks.
Does not help when you only have a stick with a ribbon on it to judge the wind from.!!
Oh well tomorrow I will just shoot to hopefully redeem myself.
Regards

So what did you do wrong to make you skip a target?

We had a lady during the ACT State Champs who skipped three targets. The reason was that she changed her approach to each target part way through.

Where that would be picked up is when you think you've just shot the last target only to see an extra round in the bullet holder tray.

If you know you need to do 20 shots into a target, and you've actually only put 19 in, that last bullet is gonna knaw at your phyche until you re-examine the card to see which one you skipped!

Happens in pistol shooting too. One of the Aus shooters at the Com Games finished in a fourway tie for 2nd in centrefire and in the shoot off proceded to put all his shots on the wrong target.

Snipe,
It was my own stupid fault, counting bullets on the line, piss poor preparation.!!!
I knew I had one spare but thought I had counted one that was in the gun at the time.
I made sure today I checked everytime I rolled them up and counted out my bullets prior to getting on the match target.
I see one of the blokes from down your way took it out,John Howard.!!

Continue to shoot, and get out to as many prize/state/national shoots as you can, and you'll be surprised how quickly the feeling of dread and nervousness disappears - they become "just another shoot", but with some excitement added :)

You know you can get 200's, you've posted on here some of your scores. So what's stopping ya from doing that in competition!?

BTW, John Howard is a great shooter down here in Sydney, gives me a run for my money every time I shoot against him. He's methodical - watch him do his prep for every shot. It's the same every time. He even checks the recoil by pulling the rifle back and forwards, checking to see if the POA changes, which it shouldn't if everything is set up properly.

I didn't know he was going up to Lismore to shoot - I knew Ray Richo was going...
