Hi all , TZ retouched the other day on a POP gun used in the Heavy Class he's right .. I mentioned this a coupla months ago but in the breif foray into 600 yd we had the other day i can see were someone can really make a bit of headway in small groups with a a 6BR or one of it's variations in a gun that weights in at approx 25lbs(for 600/1000yd only)i ..I say approx because anyone that has gone with the big kickin H/Gs should know by now that there is a balance weight up in the 60 to 70 lb area as well,, It all depends on the degree of recoil ,if the recoil is to low for the amount of friction created by the weight/bag surface area then the recoil becomes jerky /inconsistant..TO do it right the stock would have to be Alloy billet to allow the centre of G to be real low ,only way i can think of to get the bottom of the barrel chanel to live at only .125 thou thick is machined billet.. The buttstock would have to be fine as well ,no requirement for a cheek weld,only need a little bit something (wood/alloy) to allow you the move he gun back forward.. Here only drop port Stillers need apply i reckon as i know you can really rattle em on when needed and i do believe this is mandatory to be successfull.... My gun Balances 1 inch forward of the reciever face ,this is hard to achieve with a 1.450 parralel 30 inch tube so i guess about 1.350 with a taper to 1.250 would be it ,i would certanly build in front and rear lead boxs to get to as heavy as the friction allows.. Being the 1st one in OZ to import Greg Sigmunds 106s in 2002,i would go that route again as well,they are the best..I'm not going to do it ,i'm haven to much fun with the biggun, if ya want ideas just yell..JR..Jeff Rogers

These were the components I'd be thinking of using
Stiller Viper drop port
Richards Lowrider stock.. gets the centre of gravity down.
30" 1.25" barrel
.. and of course a 12-42 Nightforce.
Trying to get the weight to 25-30lbs maybe a problem however due to there not being much stock to work with!
Of course.. the Dasher would be my caliber!

Bendigo for the 1000yd.... and I do believe a while back he was mentioning a 600yd shoot!!!
I would/will make my way there for sure if it does occur!
There is a 900m F Class range half hour from me here... great set up... just no benches!! I need to work out how to weasel my way in there and do some preaching for benches!! I cant believe Albury has not go a 500m or 1000yd range here.. central to Melbourne and Canberra.. and Sydney's not to much further!!
I might have another project on the way.. it wont be a heavygun 6mmbr or improved.... that will have to wait until my 6.5-284 is pushing up daisies... but what will it be??? Depends on a action maker.. and if he can modify a little something!!

Is there anyway of taking a light Varmint gun for short range BR and turning it into a "Light gun" for LR matches??
SC is going to be building me a 6BR/30 BR for short range stuff
Thinking of getting hinm to make up a Min spec 6.5x55 barrel for LR matches.
Is it just a matter of using a 1.25 30 inch straight tube and some lead weights added to the stock to get it into "light gun" class
or is there more to it than that??

If you are going to also use the short range rifle for a bit of long range stuff, I'd think of chambering a 6mmbr or a improved version.
You'd be making your rifle to 10.5lbs I'd be guessing... and if you put a 28" light varmint contour barrel on it, the weight should not matter to much when chambered for the light recoiling 6mmbr.
I would look at one of the improved versions.... only to get the velocity up with the shorter barrel!
